ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Potential Arizona Diamondbacks wish list

Despite losing three of their past four series and four of the last six games, the Arizona Diamondbacks are only a half-game out of first place.

Arizona is in contention this year and will find themselves in a buyers roll at the trade deadline rather than the role of sellers.

The Diamondbacks are in need of some offensive help at both the third base and left field positions and there are a few names on the market that could help the D-backs play into October.

According to Sports Illustrated, there are a few names on the trade market that could help the D-Backs win the NL West.

Melky Cabrera, Kansas City Royals, OF: Hitting .275 with nine home runs and 42 RBI. Cabrera is also a bargain player as he is only making $1.25 million.

Ryan Ludwick, San Diego Padres, OF: He may only be hitting .259 batting average he’s still got power hitting nine homeruns despite playing in pitcher friendly Petco Park. Ludwick could provide some power for Arizona, but it is unlikely the Padres would trade to a division rival.

David DeJesus, Oakland Athletics, OF: Only hitting .229 this season, but is a .286 career hitter.

Carlos Beltran, New York Mets, OF: Beltran may be the “sexiest” name out there for the Diamondbacks, and although he has played well this season his big contract would seem to hamper this deal. Beltran is also a free-agent at the end of the 2011 season.

Josh Willingham, Oakland Athletics, OF: Another player that is a free agent at the end of the season. Willingham is the only player on the A’s that has been a consistent power threat this season. He has always been known for his hitting and has had success in the National League.

Jason Kubel, Minnesota Twins, OF: Kubel is hitting .320 for the Twins but as a free agent at the end of the year he’d be a short term option. He would be a nice addition to the Arizona outfield, but the Twins have won seven in a row and may not be willing to sell if they climb further in the standings.

Luke Scott, Baltimore Orioles, OF: Only hitting .243 and struggling this season, but has had a falling out with the Orioles and it is almost guaranteed the club will be trying to move him.

Wilson Betemit Kansas City Royals, IF: Currently hitting .287 and will likely be traded as Royals are making room for prospects and younger talent.
