The Big Sky released its spring 2021 football schedule, and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks will kick off the year with a Feb. 27 hosting of Montana.

The six-game schedule will take place over an eight-week span from the last Saturday in February through April 10.

There are two open dates on March 20 and April 17 to provide flexibility in the case of rescheduled games due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Big Sky teams will play one home and one away game in each of the first and second halves of the season. The league maintained rivalries and the schedule was completed to limit travel with more bus trips.

“This spring football season certainly will be unique, and I am confident that all who care about our conference share in the sentiment that we cannot wait to watch our student-athletes and coaches compete for a Big Sky title and contend for the FCS championship,” commissioner Tom Wistrcill said.

“This schedule provides consistency by utilizing much of the original fall 2020 slate, flexibility by allowing space for games to be rescheduled, and sensibility by prioritizing regional matchups that minimize travel and expenses.”

There will be no non-conference games for the 12 teams in the league.

Game times and TV assignments will be announced later.

Teams in the Big Sky will be competing to play in the 16-team FCS playoffs that includes 11 automatic bids with five at-large berths. That bracket will be announced on Sunday, April 18 with a championship game slated for May 14-16.
