Arizona Diamondbacks prospects Tyler Skaggs and Paul Goldschmidt have been named to the MLB All-Star Futures Game at Chase Field on July 10.
The Futures Game is an annual part of All-Star week that consists of the best minor league prospects from the United States playing an exhibition game against the best prospects from around the globe.
Goldschmidt, a first baseman, is currently playing for Double-A Mobile. The 23-year-old right hander is hitting .328 with 22 home runs and 61 RBI.
There has been a lot of hype and excitement about Goldschmidt from within the D-backs organization and many are expecting him to be promoted to AAA in the near future.
Joining Goldschmidt in the Future’s Game will be 19-year-old pitching prospect, Tyler Skaggs.
While Skaggs is young and only in Triple-A, he has been impressive this season. So far, he is 4-5 with an ERA of 3.36.
Skaggs has recorded 102 strikeouts while only walking 32. It may be a little while before Skaggs is ready for the Major Leagues, but it should be interesting to see how he plays against the best the minor leagues have to offer.
Goldschmidt and Skaggs will both play for team USA in the game, something current major leaguers Justin Upton and Chris Young each did a few ago while they were in the minors.
