After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 23, 2011: Diamondbacks 5, Royals 3
The Good:
Homeruns by Miguel Montero in the second and Juan Miranda in the fourth pushed the D-backs to a win in Kansas City, completing the sweep of the Royals. Though each home run was a solo shot, the hard-hitting D-backs lit up Royals starter Felipe Paulino, who looked confounded by the hitters he was facing, for nine hits and five earned runs over his eight innings.
The Bad:
A throwing error by Miguel Montero brought in two runs for the Royals, allowing a team the D-backs dominated the rest of the night to get back in the game. Maybe it was Montero’s idea of a cruel joke or a show of his confidence, but his bad throw brought in two runs that could have been avoided.
The Funky:
The D-backs have dominated interleague play this season with a record of 15-4 and swept the Twins, Astros and Royals.
