Gibson continues to gain recognition

As the Diamondbacks continue to challenge for the National League West crown, the recognition for Kirk Gibson continues to come.
Gibson has been mentioned as a Manager of the Year candidate by several media outlets and Yahoo Sports can now be added to the list.
Kirk Gibson didn’t have the Arizona Diamondbacks on the cusp of first place in the NL West. With his mish-mash of strong core pieces (Justin Upton, Miguel Montero, Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson), a good bullpen (J.J. Putz and David Hernandez), and surprises (Josh Collmenter, Ryan Roberts and even Wily Mo Pena), Gibson has massaged a down-in-the-dumps team into a winner.
The first year manager has the Diamondbacks seven games above .500 and exceeding almost everyone’s expectations.
Gibson’s unique and intense managing style seems to be working on his core of young impressionable players as there are plenty of D-backs having breakout seasons.
Obviously trying to name the Manager of the Year is a bit premature right now as the D-backs have only played 79 of 162 games but he’s certainly made a case for himself in early in the year.
While it may only be halfway through the season Gibson has put himself, and the Diamondbacks, in a great position to win and compete for awards and a playoff berth throughout the second half of the season.
