Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton has hit 13 home runs so far this season, and if he is named to the NL All-Star team he’ll likely hit more.
A lot more.
On the Diamondbacks radio broadcast Wednesday team president Derrick Hall said he hopes Upton, who has a legitimate case to be an All-Star, makes the team.
“I hope he makes the team because if he does he’ll be part of the home run hitting contest,” Hall said of Upton. “Even more fun for our fans.”
With temperatures expected to be in triple digits, the roof will be closed with the A/C blasting for most of the derby. Whether Upton participates or not, Hall said it would be a good idea to open things up a bit for the final round.
“What we’re trying to convince baseball to do is open up the roof for the finals,” he said. “Open this roof up, open the door panels, the ball will go even further.”
The Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be at Chase Field July 12th, with the home run derby taking place the night before.
