New Mexico State University is reportedly relocating its basketball team for the 2020-21 season due to coronavirus restrictions.

The team is scouting locations in Phoenix, Tucson and Las Vegas as potential landing spots, according to a tweet from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

New Mexico’s current COVID-19 restrictions make it impossible to hold any sporting events in the state.

If the Aggies do relocate to Arizona, they will be within driving distance of Western Athletics Conference rival Grand Canyon University.

The two teams are scheduled to face off Jan. 29 and 30, 2021.

Another university from New Mexico is already conducting a similar experiment of playing sports out of state.

The University of New Mexico football team is currently playing out of Henderson, Nevada. The team is using Sam Boyd Stadium, UNLV’s previous stadium, as its home turf.

A report from Insider said the Lobos are paying $70,000 a week to house their entire staff and team in a Las Vegas hotel.

With the college basketball season set to begin on Nov. 25, NMSU will have to work to find accommodations quickly.
