Arizona Cardinals linebacker De’Vondre Campbell injured his calf against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
In the third quarter, Campbell went down after a play and was walked off the field. He was labeled as questionable to return.
Rookie linebacker and first-round pick Isaiah Simmons replaced Campbell in the game.
Simmons has struggled to find playing time throughout his first NFL season. He had a breakthrough in Week 9 in a loss to the Miami Dolphins, playing a career-high 32 snaps (52%), his first time reaching over 30% of the game’s total defensive snaps.
Campbell, meanwhile, has been one of the most consistent players on the Cardinals defense. He’s played every snap in six of Arizona’s eight games and has 63 tackles on the season.
The 27-year-old was signed to a one-year deal after spending his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
