Towers surprised, pleased with where D-backs are at

When Kevin Towers took over as the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks he appeared to be facing a fairly steep uphill climb.
The Diamondbacks, after all, had lost 189 games over the previous two seasons and really showed little sign of turning things around.
Then the season happened.
“I did inherit a very good core group of players,” Towers told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf Wednesday. “There was a good group to kind of build around, and it had been a tough couple of years but I really had a lot of confidence in Kirk and the coaching staff.
