The list of accolades for Arizona State senior guard Remy Martin got a little longer on Thursday.
Martin was among 50 players named to the preseason Naismith Trophy Player of the Year watch list, which is the award given to the most outstanding player in the nation each year.
#1 for a reason.

Martin is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 19.1 points per game, in addition to dishing out 4.1 assists for head coach Bobby Hurley and company.
The six-foot senior was named the All-Pac 12 first team in 2020, the only member of the Sun Devils to make the first or second teams.
Martin improved many of his offensive stats his junior year, raising his field goal percentage from 40.2 to 43.2%, in addition to increasing his three-point percentage from 31.5 to 33.5% and his scoring by 6.2 points per game.
The fourth-year starter declared for the NBA Draft during the offseason, but decided to withdraw his name from consideration in August.
Martin will be joined by five-star freshman Josh Christopher, in the Sun Devils’ backcourt, with Portland State transfer Holland Woods likely coming off the bench for Hurley’s team.
The Sun Devils kick off their 2020-21 season with a clash against second-ranked Baylor on Nov. 25 as part of the 2K Empire Classic, held at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
