The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed right-handed pitcher Rogelio Armenteros from the Houston Astros on Friday.
The team also outrighted infielder Domingo Leyba to the Triple-A Reno Aces.
Additionally, RHP Emilio Vargas, who was taken off the D-backs’ 40-man roster earlier this week, was claimed by the Chicago White Sox.
The 26 year-old Armenteros missed the 2020 season after undergoing elbow surgery in March.
In five games (two starts) with the Astros the year prior, Armenteros sported a 4.00 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He also struck out 18 batters and walked five over 18.0 innings pitched.
Leyba’s removal from Arizona’s 40-man roster comes after serving an 80-game suspension for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
In 2019, the infielder registered seven hits, five RBIs and six runs scored in 21 games played (30 plate appearances). He averaged .280 and .367 OBP while striking out nine times and recording four walks.
Vargas posted a 3.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and struck out 70 batters with the Double-A Jackson Generals in 2019.
The moves bring the D-backs’ 40-man roster to 37.
