On Thursday Arizona Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall made it clear that his team is looking to deal before the trade deadline. But what will they be in the market for?
Sports 620 KTAR’s John Gambadoro thinks while they’ll be looking to plug holes in the bullpen they also want to add an everyday player to the mix at a key position.
“From my understanding it’s not just relief pitching they’ll look at,” he said Thursday on Gambo and Ash. “They’ll also look at third base.”
Who will the D-backs target to fill the void at the hot corner? It’s not clear but Gambadoro does know two names you can probably cross of the list.
“If [the Arizona Diamondbacks] can go out and get a solid third basemen, I think they would do that,” he said. “Two guys that come to mind are Michael Young and David Wright. Texas isn’t going to move Young right now. He’s having a great year and they’re in it. Wright, who’s on the injured list right now with the Mets, he’s gonna come back but he’s got a big contract. I don’t think they’d have any interest in adding a big contract like that.”
Young and Wright might be the two biggest names that come to mind at third base, but with plenty of teams falling out of contention in recent weeks there should be plenty of good talent available at a cheaper price.
