Arizona State football has had its third straight game of the season canceled due to the team’s COVID-19 outbreak, the Pac-12 announced Tuesday.
The game against Utah was originally scheduled for Saturday before being pushed back to Sunday for unspecified reasons.
The conference said that the Sun Devils once again did not have the minimum amount of scholarship players required to play.
“The timing of the previously reported positive results coupled with the return-to-play guidelines have stretched over parts of three weeks, which makes it unsafe for several of our players to compete this Sunday,” ASU vice president of athletics Ray Anderson said in a statement.
After losing the season opener to USC 28-27, the Sun Devils now have only two games remaining on the schedule: Dec. 5 against UCLA and the season finale on Dec. 11 vs. Arizona.
