J.J. Putz is getting closer to returning to the mound.
On the disabled list since June 29th, Putz threw in a rookie league game Sunday night at Salt River Fields. The closer said things went well.
“Threw 17 pitches, threw all my pitches,” he said. “Didn’t have any hesitation, feel great today, so I think we’re on the right track.”
Putz’s velocity sat in the 91-92 mph range, according to Gibson, who was at the game along with pitching coach Charles Nagy.
Putz is schedule to throw again on Tuesday and could be activated during the home stand.
