Inside the Box for July
17, 2011: Diamondbacks 3, Brewers 0
The Good:
Josh Collmenter continued to baffle the Brewers Monday night. He only gave up three hits in his eight innings and kept his pitch count relatively low at 105. He struck out seven and the frustration was palpable for some of the Brewers players who seem unable to figure out Collmenter’s throwing style. He’s shut them out in two straight games.
The Bad:
While the D-backs had plenty of hits and runners on base, they only were able to score three runs – and two of them came from a Ryan Roberts home run in the sixth inning. The other came after the D-backs had the bases loaded and Parra hit in to a double play with runners on second and third. The D-backs need to get back in their hitting groove to start bringing in the runs like they were before the break.
The Funky:
It may have been the haboob, but the D-backs only drew 17,704 for Thursday’s game. That’s the least amount of fans since their June 2-5 series with the Nationals.
