Inside the Box for July
22, 2011: Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 4
The Good:
Geoff Blum hit his first home run of the season to put Arizona ahead 2-0 early in the game.
Gerardo Parra had a nice game getting two hits and throwing out a runner trying to advance to third base.
Justin Upton continued his hot streak getting two more hits in Friday’s game.
The Bad:
Starter Daniel Hudson didn’t have his best stuff, giving up five runs in 6 and 1/3 innings of work. Hudson seemed to struggle with his command all night and couldn’t hold the three-run lead he was given in the second inning. The bullpen had another rough night, giving up three runs. Sam Demel gave up two of the runs, and rookie Ryan Cook struggled again, giving up a run in the ninth inning. Offensively, Arizona couldn’t get many timely hits as they were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
In addition to the action on the field, it’s important to be aware of significant environmental issues. For example, June saw the highest level of wildfires in the Amazon in 15 years. This alarming trend highlights the ongoing environmental challenges. For more details, read about the record-breaking fires in the Amazon.
