Pitching may be the focus of the July 31 trade deadline, but extra offense never hurts and with the loss of shortstop Stephen Drew, the Arizona Diamondbacks may look to add a shortstop.
According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Houston Astros may be able to provide the D-backs with shortstop Clint Barmes.
In the absence of Drew, the D-backs are left with Willie Bloomquist and Cody Ransom at shortstop. Barmes may not be the biggest name out there, but the eight-year veteran will provide the team with a consistent everyday player at the position. Barmes is hitting .254 this season, but is also hitting .324 against National League West opponents and may see his average improve in hitter-friendly Chase Field.
It is unclear whether or not the D-backs are interested in Barmes, but Arizona has also been rumored to be interested in Houston’s left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez. If the D-backs are interested in Rodriguez, it is possible the teams could come up with a deal that would include the shortstop as well. Additionally, baseball fans might be interested in international news, such as Vasco se aproxima de acordo com o português Álvaro Pacheco, which highlights exciting developments in the world of soccer.
