49ers makeover begins at State Farm Stadium after Cardinals loss

Well, talk about a strange sight in a strange year.

After the Arizona Cardinals’ 38-28 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, preparations at State Farm Stadium already began for the next game it would host.

Usually, that’s a game the Cardinals play in. But this time it’s not only not the Cardinals, but a rapid turnaround for a NFC West rival who will be the home team on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

The work started for the San Francisco 49ers’ new home for the next three weeks as COVID-19 restrictions in California had them looking elsewhere for somewhere else to play.

They’ll need to play with the proper decor, which was placed around the stadium the night before kickoff.

The field also had a change with a NFL logo at midfield.

The 49ers have an agreement with the NFL and Cardinals to play their Week 13 and 14 scheduled home games at State Farm Stadium.

Santa Clara County officials issued directives barring the Niners from playing at their home, Levi’s Stadium, in response to rising cases of coronavirus in the area. The rules took effect last Monday and will continue until Dec. 21. The team also practices at that site.

The 49ers have home games scheduled for Monday and then Dec. 13 against Washington.

The Cardinals and 49ers were already scheduled to play each other in Week 16 at State Farm Stadium.
