Inside the Box: Upton is pretty good

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for July
27, 2011: Diamondbacks 4 Padres 3

The Good:

Where to start…

Ian Kennedy earned his 12th win of the season by allowing
just two runs in six innings of work. He struck out nine
Padres in the effort.

Then again, Kennedy wasn’t even the real story.

Justin Upton continued his tear, hitting a pair of monster
home runs for Arizona. He now has 20 on the season.

Xavier Nady also went yard, with his two-run shot
providing the winning runs.

David Hernandez and J.J. Putz locked down the 8th and
9th, per usual.

The Bad:

If you must find something you could look at Brian Shaw,
allowed one run in the seventh inning. If it was an
audition for the role, he probably will not make the cut.

The Funky:

The Padres collected six hits, one each by six different
players. In contrast, the Diamondbacks tallied seven hits,
courtesy of four different players.
