ASU’s Tyler Johnson named Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week

Arizona State junior defensive lineman Tyler Johnson has been named the Pac-12’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Johnson had three sacks in the Sun Devils’ 25-18 loss to the UCLA Bruins on Saturday, and also 4.5 tackles for loss. The junior became the first ASU player since 2017 to record at least four tackles for loss in a game.
The three-sack mark hasn’t been hit by a Sun Devil in a game since Koron Crump racked up a trio of ’em against Washington State in October of 2016.
Johnson now has two multi-sack games in his career, both of which have come against the Bruins.
The defensive lineman was also nominated for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, an honor that went to California linebacker Kuony Deng. Deng forced two fumbles in the fourth quarter of the Bears’ 21-17 win over Oregon, and both came when the offense was in opposing territory.
ASU freshman running back Chip Trayanum was nominated for Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after rushing for 108 yards on 16 carries.
The Sun Devils’ final game of the regular season comes on Friday against rival Arizona at 5 p.m. You can hear the action on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
