D-backs almost traded for a bat, may have added one anyway

The Arizona Diamondbacks made a pair of trades over the weekend, acquiring Jason Marquis and Brad Ziegler.
The moves, while good, did nothing to help the team’s offense, and many think the team could have used an extra bat somewhere in the lineup, specifically at first and/or third base.
“We came very close in one of those areas, without mentioning names, it didn’t happen,” D-backs GM Kevin Towers said, alluding to the fact that the team just did not want to part with some of its better prospects.
