After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for August 1, 2011: Diamondbacks 5, Giants 2
The Good:
The D-backs went lights-out in the sixth, showing the Giants why they are still in the NL West race. Scoring five runs off of five hits and just one walk, the D-backs forced the Giants to pull out starter Matt Cain. That inning proved too much for the Giants to overcome.
Ian Kennedy threw a great game. In his eight innings, he gave up six hits and just two earned runs. He got his 13 win of the season on Monday.
Paul Goldschmidt got a hit in his first MLB game.
The Bad:
Ian Kennedy only threw two bad pitches in the game and the Giants took him deep both times. Giving up the lead-off homer in the first inning to Cody Ross in the first looked to be the beginning of a bad start for Kennedy, but he looked good until he gave up another deep ball in the seventh.
The Funky:
The D-backs trail the Giants by just one game in the NL West.
Kennedy has only given up two earned runs when facing the Giants all season.
