Inside the Box for August 2, 2011: Diamondbacks 6, Giants 1
The Good:
Paul Goldschmidt will always remember this game for the rest of his life.
The D-backs recent call-up hit his first career home run and it came against the formidable Tim Lincecum.
Goldschmidt’s two-run bomb in the fifth inning put Arizona ahead in the game and swung momentum clearly in the D-backs direction.
Arizona tacked on two more runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to close out the game pulling the D-backs even with the Giants for the division lead.
Justin Upton hit his 22nd home run of the season in the eighth inning to give the D-backs a cushion.
Starter Daniel Hudson was stellar on the mound tossing eight innings of six-hit ball only allowing one run.
Hudson also reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
The Bad:
Gerardo Parra took a bad route on a fly ball that got past him allowing the only Giants run to score.
Chris Young continued his struggles at the dish going 0-3 and dropping his average to .249 on the season.
Willie Bloomquist and Kelly Johnson were a combined 0-8 at the top of the batting order.
