Inside the Box: D-backs barely avoid sweep

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go Inside the Box for August 6, 2011: Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 3
The Good:
Recent call-up Cody Ransom showed why he belongs in the majors with a game-winning home run on Sunday. It may have been his only hit of the game, but the seventh inning blast put the D-backs ahead and they were able to hold the lead to avoid the sweep.
Ian Kennedy through a decent game as well. In seven innings, he gave up six hits for three earned runs. By not giving up much to the Dodgers, Kennedy locked up win number 14 this season.
The Bad:
The D-backs only managed five hits during the game and two of the hits were from rookies. Chris Young, Sean Burroughs and Kelly Johnson were the only other players to get a hit. The D-backs need to pick up their hitting if they’re going to take over first place from the Giants.
The Ugly:
After a weekend series the D-backs should have taken, they still remain one-half game back of the Giants in the NL West. The Giants went 1-3 against the Phillies, meaning the D-backs missed a big opportunity to take over first place.
