Cardinals’ Golden on facing Giants: ‘I’ve got a job to do, they’ve got a job to do’

Whoever said you can’t come home again obviously never played football with Arizona Cardinals linebacker Markus Golden.

Golden, who was traded to the Cardinals from the New York Giants in October, will make his first start against his former team on Sunday.

The sixth-year linebacker told members of the media on Friday that he has no hard feelings towards his former club and looks forward to seeing his former teammates.

“Honestly I’m excited about the game. That’s what I’m excited about. I’m excited to go out there and compete and play in the game,” Golden said. “It’s a job, it’s a business, I got traded and I’m here as an Arizona Cardinal now.

“Of course you’re going to see guys and you’re going to go up say what’s up to them and see who they’re doing. But other than that, I’m more interested in getting out there and competing and really getting out there and trying to win this game.”

Golden finished his lone full season with the Giants in 2019 with 72 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

So far this year, he’s put up 21 tackles (11 with the Giants) and four tackles for loss.

For now, Golden’s singular focus is to do whatever it takes to get the Cardinals back in the win column and snap their three-game losing streak.

“There’s some good guys over there that I played with. Some great guys,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of respect for them. But at the end of a day, I’ve got a job to do just like they’ve got a job to do.”
