ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Fan support should not affect D-backs on the field

The Diamondbacks have been struggling lately both on the field and at the ticket office, but one should not be used as an excuse for the other.

“Just don’t ask me to accept the lack of fan support as a reason why the Diamondbacks went out and played poorly,” Ron Wolfley said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf show.

It’s a valid point.

Blaming the team’s struggles on people who are not even on the field seems like an excuse that does not need to be given.

“Your focus at the plate, your plan versus that pitcher has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you see green seats or multi-colored human beings in those seats wearing multi-colored shirts,” Doug Franz said on the show.

However, Franz did add a caveat.

“If you are a human being and you look around and…there are only two buildings in all of Major League Baseball that have a lower capacity filled…I have to believe that it could get in your head,” he said.

It could, but it shouldn’t. Even if nobody showed up at the game the Diamondbacks would still be playing for the NL West crown, and that should be enough motivation for them.
