Former Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Trevon Coley was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets on Monday.
A day prior to the Cardinals’ win over the New York Giants on Sunday, the team made a series of roster moves. That included releasing Coley and activating defensive lineman Jordan Phillips from the injured reserve/designated for return list.
Coley was brought up from the practice squad to the active roster in late October, helping support a defensive line group for Arizona that has been ravaged by injuries.
In six games (two starts), Coley had 14 total tackles, one sack and two quarterback hits. From Weeks 10-13, Coley played nearly half the total defensive snaps. His snaps on Sunday were replaced by rookie Rashard Lawrence and Phillips, but Phillips left the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. That led to more Lawrence.
Coley played seven games and had six tackles with the Indianapolis Colts last season after spending two seasons with the Cleveland Browns where he recorded 80 tackles (41 solo) in 31 games (29 starts).
