The Arizona Coyotes have hired Cory Stillman as an assistant coach to join Rick Tocchet’s staff, the team announced Tuesday.

The move was first reported Monday by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

“Cory was a great player who won back to back Stanley Cups during his career,” Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said. “He is a very good coach who has a strong work ethic and a passion for the game. I’m confident that our players and staff will benefit from his knowledge, insight and expertise.”

Stillman, 46, is a two-time Stanley Cup winner who had a 16-year NHL career, notching up 278 goals and 449 assists for 727 points. Since retiring in 2011, he has spent time at the front office level with the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes. His most recent gig was as head coach of the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves, a position he had held for the last two seasons.

“I’m excited to join Rick Tocchet’s staff and the Coyotes organization. The Coyotes are a team on the rise,” Stillmane said. “We have two elite goaltenders, some great young talent and a solid group of veteran players. I’m looking forward to meeting the coaching staff and our players and I can’t wait to get started.”

Tocchet enters his fourth season as head coach of the Coyotes. After replacing Dave Tippett, Tocchet has a record of 101-105-28 over the three years, making the playoffs last season for the first time.

The organization also has new leadership. In June, it named Xavier A. Gutierrez president and CEO. Less than two months later, the Coyotes parted ways with general manager John Chayka, who was replaced by Bill Armstrong.
