Gibson: ‘We want to be there the last day of the season’

The Arizona Diamondbacks woke up August 11th atop the NL West standings.
Forgive them for not being excited.
“Obviously you want to be there,” Manager Kirk Gibson told reporters Thursday. “It doesn’t really mean anything.
“We want to be there the last day of the season.”
There are a lot of games left between now and that point, which is why Gibson and his team have what is absolutely the right mentality going forward.
Because, while it’s nice to be in contention, the D-backs simply have not won anything yet.
“I didn’t see anything change, like we didn’t come in like, ‘oh, wow, we’re in first place,'” Gibson said. “Everything’s the same today.”
Gibson said the team’s approach will remain the same, win or lose.
Of course, more wins and fewer losses would be nice, especially as the team hopes to put some distance between themselves and San Francisco.
