The Arizona Diamondbacks are 12 games over .500 and in first place in the NL West but can they get better? If team president Derrick Hall has his way they will.
Derrick Hall D-Backs President just told us they are looking to add a bat by the Aug 31st waiver deadline and will invest in this team XM 89
Adding another bat is an intriguing idea. The question is who exactly will make it through waivers and what position will he play?
The only player who has been confirmed to have passed through waivers according to MLBTradeRumors.com is Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Damon. While in years passed he may have fit in the ‘big bat’ category, he is hitting a paltry .262 with just 9 home runs and 50 RBI this season. He may be a slight improvement over Gerardo Parra but purely because of experience not performance this season.
While Damon isn’t likely to wind up in the desert, a left fielder would make some sense, as would a hard hitting third or first baseman. While Parra, Ryan Roberts and Paul Goldschmidt have all contributed to the D-backs surprising rise to the top of the division, if a veteran who has proven to hit for power becomes available they all could become replaceable.
