The Arizona Wildcats’ game against California Baptist on Wednesday has been canceled because of a positive coronavirus test within the Lancers program, according to a university press release.
The Wildcats and Lancers were supposed to play at 5 p.m. in Tucson. The program said that their decision stemmed from ensuring the health and safety of players and staff.
“The news of the cancellation is very disappointing to student-athletes, coaches and fans. However, health and safety must remain our top priorities as we move forward,” the release said.
Wednesday’s cancellation is the fourth of the year for the Wildcats, who previously had games against Northern Arizona, Texas-El Paso postponed and its contest against Colorado rescheduled for Dec. 28.
The team made-up its games against the Lumberjacks and Miners, beating the former 96-53 and the latter by a 69-61 score.
Arizona is scheduled to return to the hardwood to face off against the Stanford Cardinal at 6 p.m. in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Saturday night in the team’s Pac-12 opener.
