Xavier Nady suffered a fractured left hand on Friday night and by Saturday afternoon the Arizona Diamondbacks made a move to shore up the depth gap at first base.
Former Diamondback Lyle Overbay was signed after being unconditionally released by the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 9.
Overbay hit .227 in 103 games this season with the Pirates. In that time, he hit 17 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 37 RBI.
In 11 MLB seasons, Overbay has hit .270 with 561 RBI. He has hit 30 doubles in seven different seasons.
Overbay was originally signed by the Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft. He will wear No. 37.
