Count first-year Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin as a fan of the way Arizona State’s Herm Edwards is running his program.

Kiffin voiced his support for Edwards on social media on Wednesday, saying he’d choose to play for the former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs head coach if he was a five-star recruit.

He chose Edwards over a who’s who of college football coaches, including Alabama’s Nick Saban, Ryan Day of Ohio State, Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma, Dabo Sweeney of Clemson and Mario Cristobal of Oregon.

Kiffin was responding to a tweet from FOX Sports’ college football account, which referenced coaches who still are recruiting some of the top uncommitted kids.

Edwards and his staff are currently trying to land five-star defensive end Korey Foreman.

Foreman, who is the top-ranked recruit in the 2021 class, according to 247 Sports, has ASU among his top five schools, along with perennial powers like Clemson, Georgia, LSU and USC.

His father Kevin told 247 Sports that Korey will make his decision in early January, now that the All-American Bowl game has been cancelled.

“Korey will be announcing on Jan. 2,” Foreman said. “He’ll be announcing on the All-American Bowl show so we’re excited about that. It was always his dream to announce at the game but with the game being canceled, this is the next best thing.”

His father added that Korey and the family as a whole are impressed with the way that Edwards and his staff are running their recruiting operations.

The ability to play for a staff full of former NFL players and coaches, such as co-defensive coordinators Antonio Pierce and Marvin Lewis, is a definite draw for Foreman, according to his father.

“We visited ASU a month or so ago and it was eye opening,” Foreman said in November. “Herm Edwards is a really impressive guy and he’s running that program like an NFL team. They have everything in place to be successful on and off the field and I know Korey really liked it there a lot.

“For us, it’s not going to be about picking the biggest name school but the best overall fit. ASU can prepare you as well as anyone and Herm is so well connected because of his NFL background. It’s a good defense for him and the guys on the staff, AP (Antonio Pierce), (DL coach Robert Rodriguez), Marvin Lewis, Herm and everyone else has made a very positive impact.”

Arizona State’s 2021 class already has 10 signees, including nine high school recruits and LSU transfer defensive end Travez Moore.

Only time will tell if Edwards and his staff will land Foreman, but for now they can rest assured knowing they have a vote of confidence from Kiffin.
