We all knew it would come down to the wire, and come down to the wire it did.

#Diamondbacks sign No. 7 pick Archie Bradley for $5 mil. Expect that it’s a two-sport spread deal, but don’t know that for sure. #mlbdraftless than a minute ago via HootSuite Favorite Retweet Reply

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced a few minutes shy of the MLB signing deadline that they had signed the number seven overall pick Archie Bradley to a $5 million contract.

Bradley was a highly-sought after pitcher in the 2011 MLB Draft and the D-backs did well to pick and sign him. He has a fastball that has topped out at 98 mph and, reportedly, a curve ball that is ready to frustrate big league hitters.

And the kid is only 18.

“We are ecstatic Archie is an Arizona Diamondback,” said Senior Vice President, Scouting & Player Development Jerry Dipoto. “This negotiation was the final piece of our plan for the 2011 draft, and we are thrilled we were able to complete the deal. We are extremely pleased with the talent we signed and consider this to be a very successful draft.”

Bradley was committed to play both football and baseball for the University of Oklahoma.
