D-backs GM Towers quickly turned to Overbay

When the D-backs began play last Friday they didn’t feel like they needed another first baseman.

Sure, they would have liked to have had better options at the position, but they felt fairly content with Xavier Nady and Paul Goldschmidt manning the position.

Saying Lyle Overbay’s agent had called a couple days earlier asking if he had any interest in the first baseman, D-backs GM Kevin Towers told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf that there wasn’t much interest from the team’s end.

Then Nady was hit by a pitch, resulting in a fractured left hand and a dire need for a replacement at first base. The idea of the D-backs bringing Juan Miranda back from Triple-A was not very enticing, so Towers looked for someone else.
