The 50th anniversary of the Playstation Fiesta Bowl will pit the No. 10 Iowa State Cyclones against the No. 25 Oregon Ducks.

The game is scheduled for Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. at State Farm Stadium. It marks the first time the two teams have squared off against one another.

Two Arizona natives lead their respective teams in Iowa State’s Brock Purdy and Oregon’s Tyler Shough.

Purdy played for Perry High School in Gilbert, while Shough played for Hamilton High School in Chandler.

The Ducks are making their first appearance in the Fiesta Bowl since 2013. It is 2-0 in their other Fiesta Bowl games (2002, 2013).

The Fiesta Bowl will not only be the first Cyclones appearance in the bowl, it will be the team’s first major bowl game berth.

“Since 1971, the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl has earned a reputation for creating many ‘firsts’ in Bowl Season and providing several of the college football’s most memorable moments,” Fiesta Bowl executive director Mike Nealy said in a press release Sunday.

“We look forward to another ‘first’ this year with Iowa State’s best-ever season and hosting the first-ever matchup of west coast power Oregon and the rising Cyclones.”

The Fiesta Bowl Organization announced on Dec. 3 that only immediate families of the teams participating in the game will be allowed to enter State Farm Stadium for the game.
