With only one healthy quarterback on their roster, the San Francisco 49ers are signing quarterback Josh Rosen ahead of their matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Field Yates.

The 49ers had Nick Mullens go down on Sunday with an elbow injury and Josh Johnson moved to the COVID-19 list. That left them with only C.J. Beathard and Jimmy Garoppolo, and Garoppolo hasn’t played since Week 8. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday named Beathard the starter and said he’d be “very surprised” if Garoppolo was activated for Saturday.

Rosen, 23, was drafted by the Cardinals 10th overall in 2018. A year later he was traded on draft night to the Miami Dolphins after Arizona drafted Kyler Murray. Once again, another year passed and Rosen had his team select a quarterback in the first round. This time, Miami drafted Tua Tagovailoa and then they released Rosen in September.

He was then signed by the Tampa Bay Buccanneers to the practice squad, where the 49ers picked him up from.

In 20 career games, Rosen has completed 275 of his 502 passing attempts (54.8%) for 12 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

The Cardinals take on the 49ers Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and you can hear the action live on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
