Inside the Box: D-backs skid continues in DC

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the

Inside the Box for
August 22, 2011: Nationals 4, Diamondbacks 1
The Good:
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Henry Blanco was the only spark in the offense on Monday night. With the recently struggling D-backs, any sort of scoring is becoming major news. Blanco’s solo homer in the seventh and hit led him to be the only D-back with a multi-hit game.
The Bad:
Starter Joe Saunders did not have his best game, though it wasn’t terrible. He gave up four earned runs on six hits in six innings. A mediocre performance, yes, but Saunders was given no help.
Only four of the D-backs starters managed to get a hit. Four. Considering this is a team that relies on the long ball and aggressive base running to score, it’s no wonder their slide continued. With their sixth consecutive loss and the idle Giants now only a game back, Gibby needs to do something to get his guys hitting the ball again.
The Ugly:
In each game of the six-game skid, the D-backs have scored two or less runs.
