The Arizona Cardinals announced five roster moves on Christmas Day ahead of the Saturday matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kicker Mike Nugent was signed to the active roster from the practice squad, confirming that he will once again start in the place of Zane Gonzalez, who was placed on injured reserve Saturday due to a back injury.
In Nugent’s two games with the Cardinals, he has made all six extra point attempts and is 5-for-5 on field goals.
Kicker Brett Maher was signed to Arizona’s practice squad. He played on the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 and 2019, where he made 49 of his 66 field goals with a long of 63 yards. He was 18-for-31 on kicks 40 yards or longer.
He is 68-for-69 on extra point attempts.
Linebacker Dennis Gardeck was officially placed on injured reserve. On Thursday, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Gardeck, who is a special teams captain, suffered a knee issue and will end the season on IR.
The third-year linebacker finishes his season with seven sacks, a career-best.
Linebacker Terrance Smith, who appeared in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, was elevated from the practice squad, as was tight end Seth DeValve. Tight end Maxx Williams is listed on the injury report as questionable with an ankle issue. He missed all three practices this week.
DeValve has appeared in two Cardinals games this year.
The Cardinals (8-6) and 49ers (5-9) will face off at State Farm Stadium at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
