After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for
August 25, 2011: Diamondbacks 8, Nationals 1

The Good:

The D-backs have struggled on offense for their entire road trip, but remembered how to swing the bat on Thursday. Both Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Young hit two-run homers and three RBI each. Add in one RBI from Miguel Montero and new boy Aaron Hill and you’ve got yourself a D-backs line-up that has found its swing again.

Call-up Wade Miley threw a good game, especially for a rookie who had a rough welcome to the majors, courtesy of the Atlanta Braves. Miley stuck out four and did not give up a run in his six innings. His only bad stat, aside from not getting a hit, was walking four.

Thursday was Miley’s first win in the majors.

The Bad:

While the starters hit well, the pinch hitter did not. Sean Burroughs, Collin Cowgill and Lyle Overbay were asked to impact the game coming off of the bench and none of them managed a hit. In fact, Burroughs was the only one of the three who did not strike out.

The Funky:

Goldschmidt stepped up to the plate four times on Thursday and did not strike out. This is the first time he has done so when starting a game for the D-backs.
