Inside the Box for
August 26, 2011: Diamondbacks 5, Padres 0
The Good:
The Arizona Diamondbacks jumped all over the San Diego Padres and Wade LeBlanc early in the game scoring four runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning.
That would be all the runs starter Josh Collmenter and the bullpen would need.
Collmenter threw five and 1/3 innings of shutout ball.
Relievers Brad Ziegler, Micah Owings, Bryan Shaw and Joe Paterson finished off the game allowing zero runs in a combined three and 2/3 innings.
San Diego had men on base throughout the game, but the Arizona pitchers managed to strand nine Padre runners without letting them score in the game.
The Bad:
It’s hard to find much bad in this contest for Arizona, but the team didn’t tack on any runs after the second inning and only batted 2-12 with runners in scoring position for the game.
