The Arizona Coyotes signed free agent center Derick Brassard to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro first reported Monday the center was expected to sign with the Coyotes.

The latest move comes after the team shipped center Derek Stepan to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday in exchange for a 2021 second-round pick.

Entering his 14th NHL season in 2020, Brassard has registered 186 goals and 297 assists for 483 points in 852 games played. He’s also recorded 407 penalty minutes.

Brassard was drafted sixth overall in the 2006 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was later traded during 2012-13 to the New York Rangers. After spending two full seasons with the Rangers, Brassard was traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2018.

The center played 40 games for the Senators before being dealt to the Florida Panthers in 2019. Brassard would play just 10 games with the Panthers before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche.

Following the 2018-19 season, Brassard signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders. Last year, he had 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists) in 66 games.

The Coyotes open up the 2020-21 regular season against the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 14.
