D-backs manager Kirk Gibson is happy with current roster

The deadline for players to be eligible for Major League post-season rosters is Thursday, which means if the Arizona Diamondbacks are to add another player the move better come fast.

The way it works is a player has to be on a team’s major league roster before September 1st in order for that player to be on the team’s post-season roster.

The Diamondbacks are riding an eight game winning streak and are up six games on the second place San Francisco Giants. If everything stays the same manager Kirk Gibson will be one of the managers preparing a post-season roster.

Wednesday Gibson talked with Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo about the possibility of adding a big bat before Thursday’s deadline.

“We’re always trying to get better but things are hard to get done,” Gibson said. “I manage the guys that I have and I’m really happy with the moves we’ve made so far to secure things up.”

If the lineup stays the same the team would have Henry Blanco, Collin Cowgill, Lyle Overbay, Sean Burroughs and John McDonald off the bench. Together those players have a total of 23 RBI’s and eight homers this season, so adding a big bat could benefit the D-backs in possible pinch hit situations.

Although it would be beneficial adding another hitter to the mix, Gibson is content with the team he has in place.

“I’m totally happy with this roster,” Gibson said. “I got no problem with it. These guys believe in themselves, they all understand their roles, they prepare perfectly and are very dedicated to get better. We’re all excited to be together for the long journey.”
