Pitching key in D-backs winning streak

A 0.56 ERA.
That is the Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitchers earned run average over the past 48 innings. Ian Kennedy, Joe Saunders, Daniel Hudson, Wade Miley and Josh Collmenter have only given up 3 runs in the stretch.
Wednesday on Arizona Sports 620’s Gambo and Burns, John Gambadoro asked Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson if this was the best stretch of pitching he’s seen this season.
“Yeah it is,” Gibson said in reply. “I think the pitchers just have the confidence.”
Gibson attributes the good pitching to the defense.
“I think a lot of it has to do with our defense which has been pretty good,” Gibson said. “We’ve made great plays and our outfield is really coming together well. Our infield defense is much better with the addition of Johnny Mack and Erin Hill and it lets me play Bloomquist fresher.”
The manager believes the key for the strong pitching to continue lies with the starting rotation “executing the game plan.”
“They’re just much more efficient when they get it in there,” Gibson said. “It validates why we want them to execute the game plan when we can make some good plays behind them.”
