Justin Upton plunked for 16th time

Ouch.

The Diamondbacks’ Justin Upton is well on his way to setting career-best
marks in may categories this season, but none are more painful than the one
that got a boost Wednesday night: hit by pitch.

Upton was hit in the first inning by Rockies pitcher Esmil Rogers, giving the
right fielder his 16th painful pass to first base. Upton threw his bat to the side
and took a slow stroll before Miguel Montero, who batted after Upton, hit a
three-run home run.

Sixteen ties Upton with Danny Espinoza for second among all Major Leaguers
this season, with everyone trailing Chicago’s Carlos Quentin. Upton is also
now tied with Junior Spivey for second-most for a Diamondback in one
season.
