Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence declares for 2021 NFL Draft

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence declared for the 2021 NFL Draft Wednesday morning.

Lawrence, who is projected to go No. 1, announced his decision by thanking Clemson fans in a video on social media.

“Looking back on it I hope my legacy at Clemson was that I was a great teammate and a great person overall,” Lawrence said in the post. “Just more than football, more than how I played each game, just how I treated people. I want that to be the main thing that I’m known for and over the last three years that’s the thing that I kept as a priority, just treating people well and being a good person.”

Lawrence leaves Clemson with a 34-2 record as a starter, the fifth-best in FBS history among signal callers with at least 30 starts. It’s also the third-best since the FBS and FCS split in 1978, per ESPN Stats & Info.

He helped the Tigers secure an undefeated season and the 2018 National Championship his freshman year. He threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the championship matchup.

In his final year with the program this season, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound QB completed 231 of his 334 passes (69.2%) for 3,153 yards and 24 touchdowns. He tossed five interceptions. On the ground, Lawrence added eight more scores and 203 yards on 68 carries.

His sophomore campaign was the most memorable, however. Lawrence threw 36 touchdowns over the course of the 2019 season, trailing only Deshaun Watson in Clemson’s record book. Watson ended with 41 scores in 2016.

He heads to the NFL tied for second with Watson for the most passing touchdowns in Clemson history. The 90-touchdown mark sits only behind Tajh Boyd’s 107.
