ESPN insider believes Braves would be ideal match-up for D-backs

PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks are headed for the postseason, this much we know, but what scenario would be the most favorable in the first round of the playoffs?
One ESPN insider believes the answer is obvious.
“If they can start at home, that’s the way to go and if they can start at home against the Braves, that’s really the way to go because the Braves right now are in deep trouble,” said Tim Kurkjian on the Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo show Tuesday.
Kurkjian points to Atlanta’s one-dimensional offense and injuries to the starting rotation for his reasoning.
“They can’t score any runs unless they hit home runs and their top two pitchers; Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens, I just don’t see a way where they’re going to be active or effective in the first round of the playoffs,” said Kurkjian.
Some have argued the D-backs should want to face the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round because it might be easier to take the favorite to win the National League down in a five game series rather than a seven game series.
However, Kurkjian still believes the best option is take on a team in Atlanta that is struggling to the finish line.
“If I’m a Diamondbacks fan, I’m trying to open at home against the wild card Braves and then you take your chances in the National League Championship series,” said Kurkjian.
