Diamondbacks poised to win a World Series soon

Sep 28, 2011, 9:10 PM | Updated: 10:19 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks have won 94 games and the NL West, ready for their first playoff series since 2007.

And, as great as it all is, Arizona Sports 620’s John Gambadoro is even more excited about the team’s future.

“I think that this team will win a World Series in the next five years with what they’ve got,” he said. “They are so loaded. Every year this team is going to be in contention now.”

Gambadoro points to the team’s farm system — especially the abundance of pitchers — as reason to believe that greater things are ahead for the D-backs.

“There’s no more 97-loss seasons, there’s no more finishing in last place in the NL West,” he said. “This team has way, way, way too much pitching talent to where they’re not going to be a force year after year after year.”

Hopefully Gambadoro is right.

With Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson part of the rotation now, and Jarrod Parker, Trevor Bauer, Tyler Skaggs, Archie Bradley, Patrick Corbin and others set to reach the big leagues in the next couple of years, the D-backs could easily have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball.

However, the last time Arizona won the division people had similar thoughts, as young talent was either at the Major League level or not far off, and after winning 90 games in 2007 the D-backs proceeded to win 82, 70 and 65 games.

So, while things look great right now, you can never be sure of what exactly the future will bring. Then again, chances are good some excellent pitchers will be a part of it.
