Five-time Pro Bowler, three-time Super Bowl champion and…college football head coach Rob Gronkowski?

It could happen for at least one University of Arizona football game, according to new Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch.

Fisch tweeted Sunday that he has considered inviting the Arizona alum back to be the head coach for one side of the Wildcats’ annual spring game.

Fisch was the quarterbacks coach with the New England Patriots before being hired by Arizona this past December.

Gronkowski came out of retirement in 2020 to join quarterback Tom Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad, and now is heading to the NFC Championship after defeating the New Orleans Saints Sunday. Gronk also confirmed after the game that he’ll be back for another season next year.

But before he was an NFL star, Gronk was tearing up the field in Tucson. In the 22 games the tight end played as a Wildcat, he tallied 75 receptions for 1,197 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.

He holds the Wildcats’ single-season record for receptions by a tight end (47) and career receptions for a tight end (75).

Gronkowski missed his junior season due to back surgery before being drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft.

It’s clear if he does end up coaching from the sidelines this spring, Arizona players will have a chance to soak up knowledge from one of the best tight ends to play in Tucson…and they may even learn how to Gronk spike too.
