Montero starts D-backs strong offensive Game 3 performance against Brewers

PHOENIX — Rookie Paul Goldschmidt hit the grand slam and had a club tying record five RBI in the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

If it wasn’t for the success early in the game by Miguel Montero those situations likely wouldn’t have came to fruition.

Montero started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-out double off the center field wall to score Willie Bloomquist.

The catcher then drove in another run on a single up the middle in the third inning that answered a Corey Hart solo home run in the top half of the inning.

When Montero came up again in the fifth the Brewers wanted nothing to do with him.

“Montero scares me,” Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said after the game. “Montero is a really good hitter. There’s not whole lot of places you can go with him. Even when you make good pitches he’s got a chance to hit.”

An intentional walk loaded the bases for Goldschmidt. He made the Brewers pay with the grand slam.

“Goldy’s a big boy,” Montero said of Goldschmidt’s grand slam. “He’s strong enough to hit that ball out. As soon as I turned around and I saw the ball was gone I was like ‘wow.'”

After that the Brewers never threatened again and it was the Diamondbacks game.

It sets up a Game 4 Wednesday between the two teams at Chase Field.
